Wedding Pictures Posted

Written by Derek on November 17, 2008

I've collected, processed, and posted the wedding pictures, so head on over to the Photos page (by clicking on the Photos tab or by clicking View the Photo Album) to see our wedding pictures. We had several friends that helped take pictures and contributed to the album, so we really appreciate it and hope you enjoy it!

It's Done!

Written by Derek on September 8, 2008

I am now a married man! It's going to take time to get used to wearing a wedding ring and calling Jamila "my wife", but we finally were married and had the wedding reception (so I'm glad all of that's done with). Jamila and I returned late last night home from our mini-honeymoon to NYC (which was actually to see my mother-in-law off on her flight back to Uzbekistan). It was definitely a sad farewell, but we had a fun time in the city for the weekend, and finished it off at an authentic Uzbek restaurant in Brooklyn that Jamila's friend Gulya (who came to the wedding and lives in Brooklyn) recommended to us.

The wedding was very fun for both of us, and I hope everyone else had a good time as well. The weather looked bad during the day, but we managed to miss most of the rain. I had a great time being around my friends and dancing with my lovely new wife.

Jamila and I both greatly appreciated everyone that came and all of the wonderful presents that we received. Many people gave us donations to our honeymoon fund (which will come a little later), and we're looking forward to planning a trip for just the two of us to an as yet undecided, but hopefully romantic, location.

I'll post the pictures from the reception once I get them collected from my friends and sorted out, so please check back then. Thanks!

Almost There

It's almost time for us to be married! I think we have all of the major preparations in order, and are just sorting out the final bits before Friday. We finalized the catering plans the other week, and decided to go with a dinner buffet instead of the finger foods we had planned before (I think this will suit everyone more). I've gotten responses back from many friends and family, and it will be great to have everyone get together (and those who can't make it will be missed).

I'm trying to keep my nerves in order, but they're surprisingly becoming more and more tense (people at work keep asking me if I'm nervous yet, and this definitely doesn't seem to help). But Jam and I have been together for several years now, and I'm assuming things won't change too much (unless she's been holding back until we're wed ;)

I think most of all, though, that I just hope it's a fun, laid back party, and that everyone will end up comfortable, well fed (and watered), and will enjoy themselves. We've been putting together a music mix, and hopefully Jamila will restrain me from littering the tracks with corny tunes (that I keep swearing are really insanely cool) so that we can coerce some hip shaking from our stiff, mostly-white bodies.

But anyway, I'm sure it will be fun, and I can't wait to begin this chapter of my life with my beautiful wife-to-be.

Preparations, Preparations...

Whew! Even though we're having a fairly small wedding, I have still been surprised with all of the details involved. Dresses, tuxedos, rings, ties, cakes, catering and various decorations add up to a lot, it seems. Of course this is probably very obvious (especially to those of you who have already been married) and, with a cool head, things can be successfully juggled. And who knew there were so many different decorations available at places like Michael's and Hobby Lobby (well, as a guy, I sure didn't). Just going along with Jam and her mother I have been shocked at the wide array of toasting glasses, veils, and humorous cake toppers that I've witnessed.

What was that about Jam's mother? Well, luckily Jamila's mother, Rihanna, is here visiting from Uzbekistan and will be able to stay for the wedding! It's a very special opportunity for Jamila to have her Mom around to help her (and it certainly relieves me of helping to pick out things like just the right shade of pink).

Also, I guess it doesn't help that we're not giving everyone very much notice about the reception (and I hope that doesn't cause anyone any major problems), but I suppose we decided to have the ceremony in fairly short notice (and we wanted to have it while Jam's Mom was still here too). So, if you can't make it, we'll certainly understand (although please try!).

We're Getting Married!

Written by Derek on July 23, 2008

We’re getting married! After nearly two years of being engaged, we’ve finally managed to dedicate enough time to arrange a wedding. Even though we’re keeping the celebration small, I’m still feeling a little overwhelmed with all of the arrangements (but I know things will turn out well).

We decided on an exact date and booked the reception hall a few weeks ago at Annabella House, so everything’s been in steady motion since then. Jamila and I are not having a formal ceremony, just a cozy reception, and we will get married at the courthouse shortly before the reception.

I decided to set up this site to share some of our thoughts about the wedding process, to showcase various pictures of us during our relationship and of the wedding, and also to allow for RSVPs to be sent easily online (but mainly because, as a web developer, I was just looking for a chance to play around with a new site).

I’m nervous about making all of the various preparations and about having the ceremony, but I’m also trying to enjoy each step and realize that everything will go by very quickly (and that it will all be over very soon, thankfully ;).
